Ridgewood NJ Middle School Janitor Accused of Inappropriately Touching Student, Charged with Child Endangerment
Ridgewood New Jersey police recently arrested a middle school janitor accused of inappropriately touching a young female student during an after-school program.
According to authorities, the 52-year-old suspect was employed as a custodial worker at Benjamin Franklin Middle School.
The victim, who is between the ages of 12 and 14, told a parent about the incident. The parent subsequently reached out to an administrator at the middle school.
As soon as authorities were made aware of the alleged sex offense, Ridgewood NJ police began an investigation into the suspect and interviewed relevant witnesses.
The suspect is a Jamaican citizen who resides in Paterson, New Jersey. After police concluded their investigation, the suspect was placed under arrest and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Sometime after being arrested and processed, the suspect was transported to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, NJ. He was being held at the correctional facility on a $30,000 bail amount.
While the charges against the suspect are pending, the company that employed the suspect wasted no time in terminating his employment contract. The suspect no longer works as a janitor at the Ridgewood middle school.
Additionally, the company, which provides custodians and maintenance workers to schools throughout the school district, sent a letter to parents indicating that all job applicants are required to pass a criminal background check.
