Teaneck Police Search for Driver in Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident
Teaneck NJ police are attempting to determine the identity of the person who caused a fatal hit-and-run accident.
According to law enforcement, the accident occurred around 6:45 p.m. The 59-year-old victim was attempting to cross Cedar Lane at Garrison Avenue in Teaneck NJ when he was struck by a passing car.
When Teaneck police officers responded to reports of the accident, they found the victim lying on the road.
Emergency medical responders rushed the victim to Hackensack University Medical Center, where doctors attempted to treat him. Tragically, the victim, who was from Teaneck NJ, was later pronounced dead as a result of serious injuries.
Meanwhile, Teaneck investigators spoke with witnesses at the scene of the accident and obtained a description of the suspect’s vehicle. According to authorities, the suspect was driving a large, black SUV. Police said that the suspect’s vehicle may have sustained damage to the front passenger bumper, as well as the hood of the car.
After the hit-and-run accident, the suspect reportedly drove east on Cedar Lane.
If police can eventually identify and apprehend the suspect, it is likely that the driver would face criminal charges for vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident.
