Palisades Park NJ Man Allegedly Held Woman Captive in Car, Charged with Kidnapping
A Palisades Park NJ man allegedly kidnapped a woman and kept her in his car for several hours.
The 21-year-old suspect is accused of grabbing the victim in Ridgefield Park and holding her captive in his vehicle for more than seven hours. When the suspect allegedly snatched the victim, he reportedly punched her in the face, grabbed her by the arm, and pulled her into his car.
At one point, the suspect reportedly drove to a parking garage in Fairview NJ. When the victim attempted to escape, the suspect allegedly threatened to seriously hurt her.
The victim was later released. Sometime later, she notified the Palisades Park Police Department. The suspect was subsequently placed under arrest. He has been charged with kidnapping and simple assault.
Additionally, the case has been classified as a domestic violence incident because the suspect and the victim reportedly have some kind of relationship, although the exact nature of the relationship is unclear at this time.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the most serious charges of kidnapping, he faces significant penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:13-1, anyone who unlawfully removes or confines someone else for the purpose of inflicting bodily injury can be charged with a first degree crime. A conviction on first degree kidnapping charges could result in a minimum term of incarceration of 25 years in NJ State Prison.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was taken to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey. While he awaits a court hearing, the suspect was being held on a $75K bail amount.
