Maywood NJ Police Looking for Man Accused of Marijuana Distribution
Police are searching for a Maywood NJ man who is accused of marijuana distribution and money laundering.
Several law enforcement agencies raided the home of 27-year-old Miguel Brito. The agencies included the Department of Homeland Security, the Bergen Regional SWAT Team, the Maywood Police Department, and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents.
When authorities searched Mr. Brito’s residence, they allegedly found roughly eight (8) pounds of marijuana.
Since the search of Mr. Brito’s home, Mr. Brito has not been seen. Nonetheless, Mr. Brito has been charged with marijuana distribution and money laundering.
In New Jersey, prosecutors take drug distribution cases very seriously. Marijuana distribution is governed under N.J.S.A. 2C: 35-5. The penalties vary, depending on the amount of marijuana. In this case, Mr. Brito is accused of distributing approximately eight (8) pounds of pot. In accordance with the statute, prosecutors could charge Mr. Brito with second degree marijuana distribution. If convicted, Mr. Brito would be subject to as many as 10 years in NJ State Prison.
