Man Accused of Raping Woman While She Slept at Lyndhurst NJ Home
Lyndhurst NJ law enforcement recently arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman while she was asleep.
According to Bergen County NJ prosecutors, the suspect was present in the victim’s Lyndhurst NJ home when she passed out. At some point during the night, the suspect allegedly approached the victim and raped her.
The victim later contacted the Lyndhurst Police Department and told them that she had been raped. She spoke with Lyndhurst NJ investigators and said that she woke up during the sexual assault.
At this time, it is unclear if alcohol was involved in the alleged sexual assault.
It is believed that the suspect and the victim were acquaintances who knew each other.
After conducting a detailed investigation into the sex crime allegations, Lyndhurst NJ police obtained an arrest warrant and placed the suspect under arrest.
The suspect is a 35-year-old man who lives in Barnegat, which is located in Ocean County, New Jersey. He has been charged with multiple sex offenses, including aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault.
If the suspect is convicted of the most serious charges of aggravated sexual assault, he would be subject to significant criminal penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2, a person who commits aggravated sexual assault can be charged with a first degree felony. A conviction on first degree aggravated sexual assault charges could result in a sentence of 10-20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
After being arrested and charged in this case, the suspect was moved to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, NJ. He was being held at the jail on a $100,000 bail amount, with no option for paying 10 percent of the bail in cash.
