Hackensack NJ Man Accused of Robbing, Sexually Assaulting Woman
Bergen County law enforcement recently arrested a man accused of committing a sexual assault and armed robbery of a woman in Hackensack, NJ.
The crimes were reportedly committed on November 27, 2015. According to authorities, the 30-year-old suspect robbed the 22-year-old victim at gunpoint while she was waiting for a friend. The victim was standing near the intersection of Poplar Avenue and Grand Street in Hackensack, NJ when the attack occurred. The suspect reportedly walked up to her, committed the robbery and the sex crime, and then fled the area on foot.
The victim contacted local police a week later, on December 4, and reported that she had been sexually assaulted.
The Hackensack Police Department, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, and New Jersey State Police conducted a joint investigation and asked for the public’s assistance in locating the suspect.
Investigators caught a break when the victim noticed the suspect walking in the area of Main Street in Hackensack NJ on December 24. She immediately reached out to Hackensack detectives.
The suspect, who lives in Hackensack NJ and works as a car washer at Teaneck Car Wash, was interviewed by Hackensack investigators.
Police soon identified the suspect as the likely culprit. He was subsequently arrested and charged with numerous crimes, including aggravated sexual assault, armed robbery, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
The suspect was also charged with possession of marijuana and heroin possession because he allegedly had illegal drugs on him at the time of his arrest.
After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was taken to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, NJ. He was being held at the jail in lieu of $400,000 bail. There was no 10-percent cash option for posting bail and securing his release.
