Former Bergen County Corrections Officer Accused of Sexually Assaulting Minor
A former corrections officer in Bergen County NJ faces aggravated sexual assault charges after the alleged victim came forward to law enforcement.
According to authorities, the suspect committed the sex crimes more than a decade ago in Bergen County, New Jersey. At the time of the alleged sexual assaults, the victim was reportedly 12 years old.
The victim did not tell anyone about the sexual offenses for many years, but she eventually went to the police and made the allegations against the suspect. Detectives with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office investigated the sex crime allegations and spoke to the victim before determining that enough evidence existed to place the suspect under arrest. Police officers then located and arrested the suspect in Paramus, New Jersey.
The suspect is a 42-year-old man who used to work as a Bergen County corrections officer. He has been charged with multiple sex crimes, including aggravated sexual assault and child endangerment.
After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was transported to the Morris County Jail in Morristown, NJ. He was being held in Morris County, as opposed to Bergen County, because of his previous role with Bergen County law enforcement.
