Fair Lawn NJ Man Allegedly Attempted to Lure Young Victim
A Fair Lawn NJ man has been accused of trying to lure an underage girl.
The suspect is a 60-year-old resident of Fair Lawn, New Jersey. According to prosecutors, he sent numerous text messages to a 15-year-old girl and attempted to get her to have sex with him.
In May 2015, Belleville NJ detectives opened an investigation into the suspect after the underage victim came forward and said that an adult was sending her sexually explicit text messages.
Belleville police soon identified the suspect as the person who may have been sending the illicit texts. Authorities said that the suspect knew the girl through one of her relatives.
The NJ State Police Digital Technology Investigations Unit assisted with the investigation and had an undercover detective pose as the juvenile victim. The undercover cop and the suspect reportedly exchanged texts, with the suspect allegedly trying to arrange a meeting in person.
The suspect was eventually arrested and charged with multiple sex crimes, including second degree luring and third degree showing obscene materials to a minor.
It is believed that the suspect was in contact with other juveniles, so it’s possible that additional criminal charges could be forthcoming.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey. He eventually secured his release from police custody by posting $100K bail.
