Elmwood Park Teens Accused of Sexual Assault, Allegedly Videotaped It
Four men were recently offered plea deals that call for them to avoid prison time if they plead guilty to child endangerment charges Elmwood Park, NJ.
The attack is said to have occurred on June 21, 2014. According to Bergen County prosecutors, the suspects videotaped themselves having a sexual encounter with a drunken 15-year-old female. The 45-second video was allegedly recorded on an iPhone.
After the alleged sex crime, the victim was found lying on her front lawn. She was then taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center. A blood test revealed that the victim’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.27 percent.
Detectives with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office later spoke to the victim and another witness. Investigators also obtained the video that reportedly shows the sexual offense.
Three of the suspects are former football players for Elmwood Park High School. The three ex-football players are 19 years old, while the fourth suspect is 18 years old.
The suspects face criminal charges for sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
The suspects recently appeared in Bergen County Superior Court for a second arraignment after their first indictment was tossed out because of a technical glitch during the video presentation.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office has reportedly offered plea deals to the suspects that would call for them to enter guilty pleas on the child endangerment charges.
Under the terms of the plea deals, the suspects would receive suspended sentences and avoid any prison time. The suspects would also have to register as sex offenders under Megan’s Law sex offender registration requirements.
If the suspects violate the terms of the plea agreements, they could be sent to New Jersey State Prison for as many as three years.
After initially being arrested and charged, the suspects secured their releases from police custody by posting bail amounts ranging from $82,500 to $150,000. They remain free on bail while the sexual assault charges are pending.
