Elmwood Park NJ Police Bust Brother of Garden State Plaza Shooter on Heroin Charges
Elmwood Park NJ police recently arrested the brother of Garden State Plaza shooter Richard Shoop.
The 24-year-old suspect, who lives in Teaneck NJ, was arrested on heroin charges.
According to authorities, the suspect and another person were in the area of East 54th Street and Broadway in Elmwood Park, New Jersey. A police officer observed the two suspects allegedly engaging in a drug deal.
The officer then approached the suspects and conducted an investigation. The officer reportedly confirmed that the suspects were in possession of 20 bags of heroin. At that time, the officer placed both suspects under arrest.
The other suspect is reportedly a 20-year-old woman from Paramus, New Jersey.
Both suspects have been charged with heroin possession.
After being arrested and charged, the suspects were released from custody on their own recognizance. They will have to return to Elmwood Park to address the charges in court.
The male suspect was the person who first notified authorities that his brother shot up the Garden State Plaza mall in November 2013. The suspect contacted police after finding a disturbing note which had been written by his brother.
