Drunk Driver Allegedly Leads Police on Chase through Lodi, Hasbrouck Heights, and Elmwood Park
Passaic New Jersey police recently arrested a teenager who allegedly led police officers on a chase through Hasbrouck Heights, Lodi, and Elmwood Park before parking his car in the front yard of a house.
According to authorities, Passaic patrol officers saw the 19-year-old suspect swerving and run a red light while driving a Hyundai on a street in Clifton, NJ. When the officers attempted to stop the suspect’s vehicle, the suspect allegedly fled and sped away on Route 21.
Clifton police officers spotted the car a short time later. When they tried to stop the vehicle, the suspect allegedly ignored their requests.
The suspect then led police on a chase that extended into Bergen County, including Elmwood Park, Hasbrouck Heights, and Lodi.
The teenage suspect, who lives in Clifton, reportedly tried to ram one of the police cruisers at one point during the pursuit. Thankfully, the officer was able to avoid a collision. The good news is that no one was injured as a result of the chase.
The suspect eventually lost control of his car and ended up pulling onto the front lawn of a home in Hasbrouck Heights. The suspect then abandoned the vehicle and tried to flee police on foot. He was quickly apprehended.
The suspect was placed under arrest and charged with a number of crimes, including aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and driving while intoxicated (DWI). He was also cited for more than a dozen traffic offenses.
After being arrested and processed by Clifton police, the suspect was transferred to the custody of Passaic police. He was later transported to the Passaic County Jail.
