73 Arrested, 3 Stabbed, Boardwalk Shut Down in Seaside Heights During Memorial Day Weekend
Unfortunately, none of the stabbing victims cooperated with police. One 21-year-old Beachwood man was arrested after a fight and was allegedly found to be in possession of a firearm. He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, resisting arrest, and obstructing the administration of law.
These incidents and arrests were not unexpected. Seaside Heights Mayor Tony Vaz said that 100 police officers were ready and available to assist this weekend to deal with issues such as intoxicated patrons and disorderly conduct.
Some of the charges we typically see from incidents like this include the following:
- Simple assault – for a mutual fight or an assault that does not result in serious injuries
- Aggravated assault – for a serious altercation that results in broken bones, etc. or where there is a weapon involved
- Disorderly conduct – for drunk and disorderly behavior
- Criminal mischief – for destruction of property
- Various weapons charges – for knives, brass knuckles, guns, etc.
The disorderly persons (misdemeanor) charges such as simple assault, disorderly conduct, and criminal mischief (for damages less than $500) will be handled in the Seaside Heights Municipal Court. The Seaside Heights Municipal Court is located at 116 Sherman Ave, Seaside Heights NJ, 08751.
On the other hand, if the defendant is charged with an indictable (felony) charge such as aggravated assault, criminal mischief over $500, or weapons charges then these cases will be transferred to the Ocean County Superior Court and will be prosecuted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
