This defense, while not the absolute best outcome, is far greater than being convicted for an assault charge.  If two individuals agree that they were both essentially “in agreement” in their decision to fight, an assault charge will be down graded into a disorderly persons offense or even better, a municipal ordinance violation.

This is one of those circumstances where two individuals simply decide to sort their problems out by violent means.  Common sense would dictate that this should be a lesser charge than someone who haphazardly attacks another individual.  In any case, having a lawyer present to handle your assault charge will undoubtedly enable the best result… hopefully a municipal ordinance violation which will result in a small fine.
