Teaneck NJ Man Allegedly Struck Pedestrian with Car, Charged with Assault by Auto
Teaneck New Jersey police arrested a local man who was allegedly driving drunk when he hit and injured a pedestrian.
According to authorities, the 54-year-old suspect was driving a white van on Chadwick Road when he struck a man from Fresh Meadows, New York. At the time of the hit-and-run accident, the 55-year-old victim was walking in the street because the sidewalks were filled with snow.
According to a witness, the suspect stopped for a brief moment but then fled the scene.
The victim reportedly suffered a broken leg. A short time after the accident, the victim was transported to Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck for medical treatment.
Teaneck NJ police arrived at the scene of the accident and began an investigation. A witness at the scene provided police with a license plate number for the van. Sometime later, a police sergeant saw the suspect’s van and pulled over the vehicle in a parking lot on Cedar Lane.
According to police, the suspect was under the influence of alcohol.
Additionally, the victim later identified the suspect as the driver of the van.
The suspect was placed under arrest and charged with a number of offenses, including assault by auto, driving while intoxicated (DWI), and leaving the scene of an accident.
The suspect was released from police custody after posting a $4,500 bail amount.
