Ridgewood NJ Police Investigate Shooting at Unoccupied Church
Police are investigating a report of heavy gunfire at an unoccupied church in Ridgewood, New Jersey.
According to authorities, the Old Paramus Reformed Church in Ridgewood NJ was hit by more than 30 gunshots on the day after Christmas. The church’s website indicates that the structure was erected in 1800.
Thankfully, no one was inside the house of worship at the time of the shooting.
The gunshots reportedly damaged the exterior and the interior of the church.
The church pastor discovered the damage to the church shortly before morning service was set to begin on Sunday. The pastor told police that several gunshots left bullet holes in a stained glass window. It is believed that repairs to the church window will cost a minimum of $50,000.
The Ridgewood Police Department and the Bergen County Crime Scene Investigation Unit are actively investigating the incident. Detectives have not yet identified any suspects in the shooting
Additionally, police have not identified a motive for the shooting. According to investigators, neither the church nor the pastor received any threats prior to the incident.
If a suspect is eventually identified, they could face serious criminal charges for aggravated assault and criminal mischief.
