Armed Robbery Charges in Lyndhurst, NJ

According to law enforcement, the suspect entered the M&T Bank located on Lewandowski Street in Lyndhurst NJ and approached a bank teller. The suspect reportedly concealed part of his face by wearing a white towel over his head. He was also wearing sunglasses during the bank robbery.

The suspect allegedly told the bank teller that he had a firearm and that he would use the weapon to shoot employees unless the bank worker handed over cash. The suspect then reportedly handed the bank employee a plastic bag and told the teller to fill the bag with the money.

Once the suspect had an undisclosed amount of cash, he exited the building and fled the area on foot.

The bank worker who was victimized during the robbery set off an alarm, alerting the Lyndhurst Police Department to the theft incident. By the time Lyndhurst cops arrived at the scene, the suspect was long gone.

Thankfully, no one was injured during the bank robbery. At the time of the theft, there were no customers inside the Lyndhurst bank.

Several law enforcement agencies, including the Lyndhurst Police Department, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), are conducting an investigation into the robbery. At this time, authorities have not identified or apprehended the suspect.

Police recently released a description of the suspect. The bank robber is said to be a white male who is between the ages of 25 and 35 and who has a medium build.

If police can eventually apprehend the suspect, he would likely face criminal charges for second degree robbery. Although robbery can be classified as a first degree felony if the culprit uses a deadly weapon during the commission of the theft, in this instance the suspect did not appear to actually have a handgun.
