Hackensack NJ Man Accused of Sexually Abusing Young Girl, Charged with Sexual Assault
Police recently arrested a Hackensack New Jersey man accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl.
According to Bergen County NJ prosecutors, the 36-year-old suspect committed the sexual assault of a “female minor” between the ages of 13 and 16.
The suspect is also accused of physically assaulting an adult woman.
Authorities first learned about the alleged sexual abuse when the adult victim came forward to report the attack against her. The woman told police that she found a video on the suspect’s cell phone showing him sexually abusing a young girl she knew.
Law enforcement then conducted an investigation into the allegation. The joint investigation involved the Hackensack Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.
Investigators eventually found enough evidence to place the suspect under arrest.
The suspect has been charged with several criminal offenses, including aggravated sexual assault, child endangerment, aggravated criminal sexual contact, and simple assault.
If the suspect is convicted on the most serious sex crime charges, he faces significant penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2, sexual penetration with a minor under the age of 13 is a first degree felony. A conviction for first degree aggravated sexual assault could lead to a sentence of 10-20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
The suspect will have to appear in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack for an arraignment. He is currently being held at the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail. If he does secure his release on bail, he will be barred from any contact with the alleged victims in the case.
