Elderly Woman Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing Man in Lodi, New Jersey
Police in Lodi NJ arrested an elderly woman who allegedly stabbed a man and then locked herself in the bathroom.
According to authorities, the 68-year-old suspect was at a residence when she stabbed the male victim in the hand.
After the alleged stabbing, the suspect reportedly went into the bathroom and locked the door behind her. It was not until police arrived at the scene that she finally came out of the restroom.
According to police, the suspect told the victim that she wanted to kill him.
When police got to the residence, they placed the suspect under arrest.
Meanwhile, the victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center to receive medical treatment for his injuries.
The suspect has been charged with several criminal offenses, including aggravated assault. The suspect also faces charges for various weapons offenses because the alleged attack involved a knife.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the aggravated assault charges, she could be subject to significant penalties. That’s because N.J.S.A. 2C:12:1b(2) classifies aggravated assault with a deadly weapon like a knife or a handgun as a third degree felony, while N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(1) classifies aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury as a second degree felony. Depending on the circumstances, the suspect in this case could be sentenced to as many as 10 years in New Jersey State Prison.
After being placed under arrest and charged, the suspect was due to be transported to the Bergen County Jail. However, the suspect was released from custody after posting a $30,000 bail amount. She has a pending court date to address the charges against her.
