Washington Township Cop Injured after Allegedly Being Hit by Drunk Driver
A Washington Township NJ police officer was injured after an alleged drunk driver crashed into his patrol vehicle.
The incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. The Washington Township cop had parked his vehicle near the Westwood border when he received a report about a motorist who was possibly intoxicated. The suspect was said to be driving east on Washington Avenue in Washington Township, New Jersey.
When the police officer spotted the suspect’s vehicle, he flashed the police cruiser’s emergency lights, turned on the sirens, and attempted to catch up to the suspect.
At some point, the suspect allegedly collided with the police officer’s patrol car.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment for accident-related injuries. According to officials, the victim’s injuries were considered “minor.”
Meanwhile, the suspect continued driving after the collision and was reportedly involved in another accident with a different motorist.
After the second car crash, the suspect was placed under arrest and charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).
The suspect was not injured as a result of either DWI accident.
