Police Search for Suspect Accused of Armed Robbery of Subway Store in Elmwood Park, New Jersey
Elmwood Park police are searching for a man accused of robbing a local Subway sandwich store.
The theft incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. According to authorities, the suspect committed the armed robbery at the Subway located at 505 Boulevard in Elmwood Park, New Jersey.
The suspect was reportedly concealing his identity by wearing a black ski mask and black hoodie when he entered the store.
Once inside the fast food restaurant, the suspect reportedly approached the 21-year-old female cashier and brandished a black semiautomatic handgun. He then allegedly demanded that the store employee hand over all of the cash in the store register.
Afterwards, the suspect ran out of the store and fled the area on foot. He allegedly got away with $515 in cash taken from the register.
The store worker dialed 911 and contacted the Elmwood Park Police Department. When police officers got to the scene, they found the victim a little shaken up but, thankfully, uninjured.
The victim spoke with police and described the suspect as a man standing roughly 5-feet-11-inches tall. The Bergen County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit then managed to track the suspect to an area near the Parkway diner. However, the suspect still managed to get away from police.
If the suspect is eventually identified, located, and apprehended, he would face severe penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1, theft committed with a deadly weapon such as a handgun or a knife is classified as a first degree felony and carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
The Elmwood Park Police Department is asking for the public’s help with the investigation. Anyone who has information about the suspect or the robbery should call Elmwood Park investigators at 201-796-0700.
