North Bergen Man Allegedly Brought Handgun to Franklin Lakes Business
Franklin Lakes NJ police arrested a North Bergen man who allegedly brought a handgun to his job.
The suspect is a 45-year-old resident of North Bergen, New Jersey. He works at Daman Associates Inc., an insurance agency business located on High Mountain Road in Franklin Lakes.
According to law enforcement, the suspect went to work in the morning and placed a firearm in his desk.
When a co-worker at the insurance company noticed the weapon in the suspect’s desk, he dialed 911 and alerted the Franklin Lakes Police Department. Franklin Lakes detectives were dispatched to the building, where they spoke to the suspect and other employees.
Police officers ultimately decided to place the suspect under arrest. He was subsequently charged with illegal handgun possession.
If the suspect is convicted on the weapons offense charges, he would face severe penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5(b), unlawful possession of a handgun is a second degree felony. Moreover, the NJ Graves Act requires offenders to serve a minimum mandatory term of incarceration on handgun possession convictions.
