Lodi NJ Man Charged with Assault by Auto for Car Crash in Sparta, New Jersey
A Lodi New Jersey man was arrested after allegedly crashing his vehicle into a Jeep and injuring a pregnant woman in Sparta, NJ.
According to authorities, the suspect was driving a Chevy Trailblazer at an excessive rate of speed along Route 15 in Sparta NJ when he attempted to pass another car and lost control of the vehicle. The suspect’s car reportedly overturned onto a median and then crashed into a Jeep Liberty traveling the opposite direction in the other lane.
The head-on collision caused serious bodily injuries to the driver of the Jeep, a 36-year-old woman from Hamburg, New Jersey. Additionally, the 20-year-old passenger in the suspect’s car also sustained injuries in the car crash.
Afterwards, the suspect allegedly made false statements to police about what happened on the road in the moments preceding the car accident.
The suspect, a 20-year-old resident of Lodi NJ, faces criminal charges for assault by auto in connection with the car accident. Moreover, the suspect was also charged with obstruction of justice for allegedly making false statements to law enforcement.
The crime of assault by auto is classified as a fourth degree felony when the accident results in significant bodily injury to another person, so the suspect in this case faces potential prison time if he is convicted.
The good news is that the pregnant woman involved in the car accident was expected to survive her injuries. Beyond that, the injuries she sustained in the car collision did not cause any complications with her pregnancy.
