Cliffside Park Man Accused of Aggravated Sexual Assault in Fairview, New Jersey
Police recently arrested a man accused of committing a sexual assault of a 9-year-old girl in Fairview, New Jersey.
According to authorities, the rape occurred four years ago. The suspect, a 25-year-old Cliffside Park man, allegedly sexually assaulted the girl on at least one occasion.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit collaborated with the Fairview Police Department on an investigation into the allegations. Law enforcement began the investigation after the victim’s family contacted Fairview NJ police. Police then alerted the Special Victims Unit.
Investigators eventually obtained enough evidence to arrest the suspect.
The suspect has been charged with several sex crimes, including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and child endangerment.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the most serious charges of aggravated sexual assault, he faces severe penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2, anyone who commits an act of sexual penetration with a victim under the age of 13 can be charged with a first degree felony. A conviction for first degree aggravated sexual assault could lead to a sentence of 10-20 years in NJ State Prison.
After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was taken to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey. He was being held at the jail on a $300,000 bail amount. If he does secure his release from police custody, he will have to steer clear of the alleged victim due to a no-contact order.
The suspect will have to appear in Bergen County Superior Court for an arraignment.
