Bogota NJ Man Pleads Guilty to Distributing Child Pornography, Child Rape Videos on the Internet
A Bogota NJ man is headed to state prison after pleading guilty to criminal charges of distributing child pornography.
According to authorities, the suspect shared numerous child rape videos and other illicit sexual images by uploading the videos online. He used software that allowed other people to download the illegal videos from a folder on his computer.
The NJ Division of Criminal Justice and New Jersey State Police began an investigation into the suspect last year and traced the online child pornography to his IP address in Bogota, NJ. Investigators subsequently seized the suspect’s computer and found the hidden files.
The suspect, a 70-year-old man who lives in Bogota, New Jersey, was charged with distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography. He eventually reached a plea agreement with Bergen County prosecutors and pleaded guilty to second degree distribution of child pornography.
Under the terms of the plea deal, the suspect will be sentenced to four years in New Jersey State Prison, with a minimum mandatory term of incarceration of 20 months before the suspect becomes eligible for parole.
Additionally, the suspect will be subject to Megan’s Law sex offender registration requirements after he completes his sentence and is released from prison. This means he will likely have to register as a sex offender in New Jersey for the rest of his life.
The suspect will appear in Bergen County Superior Court, located in Hackensack, on December 2 for a formal sentencing hearing.
