A NY man accused of robbing a bank in Fort Lee, New Jersey earlier this year is scheduled to make an appearance in federal court in Newark, NJ.

According to prosecutors, the suspect committed the theft crime at the Bank of New Jersey on January 20, 2017. He allegedly entered the building, handed a note to the bank teller, and demanded cash. The note allegedly stated that the suspect had a gun and would use it to shoot the bank employee.

After getting more than $5,000 in cash, the suspect allegedly ran out of the bank and fled the scene on foot.

Fort Lee NJ police officers soon arrived at the scene and tracked down the suspect on the George Washington Bridge. When police apprehended the suspect, he reportedly had stolen cash in his pocket.

The suspect is a 30-year-old man from New York. He faces criminal charges for bank robbery.

If the suspect is convicted on the federal charges, he could be sentenced to as many as 20 years behind bars and fined as much as $250,000.

While the criminal charges against the suspect remain pending, he is being held at the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey.
