Police Search for Suspect Who Allegedly Crashed into Patrol Car on Palisades Interstate Parkway in Englewood Cliffs, NJ
Palisades Interstate Parkway NJ police are searching for a suspect accused of sideswiping a police patrol vehicle and then fleeing the scene.
According to police, the accident happened along the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Englewood Cliffs, NJ.
The suspect was reportedly driving a green Jaguar XJ in the right lane on the northbound side of the highway when they lost control of the vehicle.
When the crash occurred, the patrol officer’s cruiser was parked along the shoulder of the Palisades Interstate Parkway. The officer was reportedly investigating an earlier crash which involved two vehicles.
According to police, the Jaguar sideswiped the patrol vehicle and then quickly fled the scene. The good news is that there are no injuries stemming from the accident.
The investigation into the accident remains active and ongoing. The Jaguar probably has damage to the passenger side, along with white paint markings along the passenger side. The vehicle is also said to have New York license plates.
If the driver of the Jaguar is identified, they could be subject to significant penalties for leaving the scene of an accident. That’s because N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1.1 classifies leaving the scene of an accident as a criminal offense when the crash results in serious bodily injury. Even when the accident does not cause injuries, the offender can still be charged with a traffic violation and face serious penalties.
Palisades Interstate Parkway police are asking that anyone who has information about the suspect or the incident reach out to detectives at 201-768-6001.
