Paramus NJ Police Search for Suspect in Hit-and-Run Accident on Route 17
Police in Paramus NJ closed down a roadway while investigating a hit-and-run accident that seriously injured a pedestrian.
The car accident happened shortly before 8:00 p.m. on Route 17 North at A & S Drive in Paramus, New Jersey. The victim, a 20-year-old female who lives in Paramus, was reportedly leaving the Toys “R” Us store located on Ridgewood Avenue when she was struck by the motor vehicle.
Someone notified the Paramus Police Department that a woman had been hit by a car in the area. When Paramus NJ police officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim lying on the roadway and having suffered significant physical injuries.
The victim was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center, where doctors treated her for the injuries. She was later listed in serious condition.
Paramus NJ law enforcement is actively investigating the alleged hit-and-run crash. Investigators spoke with the victim, as well as witnesses, and learned that the suspect’s vehicle was a black Toyota SUV. Police believe that the car probably sustained damage to the front right fender and the front right mirror.
If police can eventually identify and locate the suspect, criminal charges for leaving the scene of an accident would likely follow. Although leaving the scene of an accident is often classified as a traffic violation, it can be elevated to a criminal offense when the offender knowingly leaves the scene of an accident that resulted in serious bodily injury to another person.
