New Milford Police Look for Suspect Who Allegedly Impersonated Officer
Police in New Milford NJ are searching for a suspect in a recent theft incident.
The suspect allegedly committed the theft crime around 8:45 p.m. on River Road in New Milford, New Jersey. According to law enforcement, the suspect was driving a black Chevy Tahoe or Suburban when he stopped another vehicle on the road.
After pulling over the victim, the suspect approached the other car and allegedly pretended to be a police officer. He reportedly asked for the victim’s license and registration and then told him that he owed money for an unpaid traffic summons.
Additionally, the suspect allegedly said that the motorist could pay the fine immediately. When the motorist refused to pay, the suspect went back to his motor vehicle and drove off.
The suspect has been described as a man in his mid to late 20s who stands 5-foot-8 and weighs approximately 200 pounds. The New Milford Police Department released a sketch of the suspect in the hopes that someone might recognize him.
If and when the suspect is identified and apprehended, he will probably face criminal charges for theft of movable property.
