Moonachie NJ Man Accused of Sexually Abusing 9-Year-Old Girl, Charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault
Police recently arrested a Moonachie NJ man accused of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl.
According to Bergen County authorities, the 21-year-old suspect sexually assaulted the victim in Moonachie, New Jersey.
The victim’s mother learned of the alleged sexual misconduct when the victim told her about the assault. The mother then notified Moonachie police, who subsequently communicated the allegations to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.
Bergen County detectives investigated the allegations and spoke with the victim. During an interview with investigators, the victim reportedly provided a detailed description of the sexual abuse.
After speaking with the victim and finishing their investigation, police placed the suspect under arrest.
The suspect, whom police described as an acquaintance of the victim, has been charged with several sex crimes, including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.
If the suspect is eventually convicted on the most serious sex crime charges, he faces severe penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2, anyone who engaged in sexual activity with a victim under the age of 13 can be charged with a first degree felony. A conviction for first degree aggravated sexual assault could result in a sentence of 10-20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
The suspect is currently being held at the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey. His bail amount was set at $300,000.
