Mahwah NJ Police Seize 13 Pounds of Pot, Charge Four Suspects with Marijuana Possession
Four men were recently arrested by Mahwah police and charged with drug distribution.
According to authorities, the suspects had 13 pounds of marijuana and approximately $22,000 in cash at a residence in Mahwah, New Jersey.
Mahwah NJ detectives were on a special detail when they saw a black Chevrolet Tahoe driving on Lydia Lane. The detectives reportedly saw the vehicle suddenly swerve into the opposite lane of traffic. According to police, the maneuver nearly caused a crash.
The detectives pulled over the SUV and spoke with the 26-year-old driver. Although the driver is from New York, he gave police a California driver’s license. The driver then told the detectives that he had recently moved to Mahwah, New Jersey.
Something the suspect said during the conversation made detectives suspicious, so they went to his nearby rental home while he remained with the vehicle. Once detectives got to the rental property, they spoke with three individuals through a window.
At some point during the conversation, the detectives reportedly detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the house.
The detectives requested permission to enter the premises. When the occupants refused and allegedly appeared to be in the process of destroying evidence, the detectives forced their way into the home. The detectives then secured the residence and awaited the issuance of a search warrant.
Sometime later, police searched the house and allegedly found 13 pounds of marijuana and roughly $22,000 in cash.
The four suspects were placed under arrest and charged with various drug crimes, including possession of marijuana
All four suspects were transported to the Bergen County Jail, where they were each being held on a $100,000 bail amount.
