Former Hackensack NJ Firefighter Sentenced for Rape of 13-Year-Old Girl
A former Hackensack NJ firefighter has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison for sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl.
In Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack NJ, a judge imposed sentence on David Fernandez. The judge stated that he was incredibly troubled by Mr. Fernandez’s lack of remorse. The judge also barred Mr. Fernandez from public employment. However, the judge declared that he was unable to take any action regarding Mr. Fernandez’s pension.
Imposition of the sentence followed emotional statements by the victim’s mother, who called Mr. Fernandez “a monster.” At sentencing, Mr. Fernandez continued to profess his innocence, telling the judge, “I am not guilty of this crime.”
The breakdown of Mr. Fernandez’s sentence is as follows: six (6) years in state prison for sexual assault, six (6) years for rape, 18 months for criminal sexual contact, and an additional four (4) years for impairing the morals of a minor.
After Mr. Fernandez is released, he will be required to register as a sex offender. Mr. Fernandez will also be required to remain on parole for the rest of his life.
