Fairview NJ Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting 10-Year-Old Girl
Police recently arrested a Fairview NJ man accused of sexually abusing a young girl.
According to authorities, New Jersey child welfare officials received a report that the 31-year-old suspect had sexually abused someone he knew.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office immediately began an investigation. Detectives with the prosecutor’s office conducted an interview of the victim.
According to the victim, the sexual abuse occurred in 2012 when she was 10 years old. The victim, who is now 12 years old, allegedly provided interviewers with “specific details” about a sexual encounter with the suspect.
After finishing the investigation, prosecutors determined that the suspect did, in fact, commit sexual abuse.
The suspect was placed under arrest and charged with aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
If the suspect is convicted on the aggravated sexual assault charges, he will face significant penalties. That’s because N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2 classifies aggravated sexual assault as a first degree felony. If the suspect in this case is convicted of aggravated sexual assault, he could be sentenced to 10–20 years in New Jersey State Prison. Beyond that, he would be required to register as a sex offender upon release from prison.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was taken to the Bergen County Jail. He is being held at the facility in lieu of $500,000 bail, with no 10 percent option.
The suspect will have to appear in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack NJ to answer the charges.
