Bergenfield NJ Man Accused of Stealing Soda from Jersey City ShopRite
According to law enforcement, the suspect stole the soda from the ShopRite located on Marin Boulevard in Jersey City, New Jersey. The suspect gained access to the items because he worked as a delivery driver.
A ShopRite loss prevention officer examined inventory records and reportedly noticed that 3,239 units of Canada Dry soda had gone missing between November 2016 and January 2017. Officials with ShopRite and officials with Canada Dry then met and discussed the possible theft crime.
The suspect allegedly confessed his crime when interviewed by his employer. He was then placed under arrest by Jersey City detectives outside the Jersey City ShopRite.
The suspect has been charged with theft of movable property. If he is convicted on the theft charges, he could face severe penalties that include prison time and heavy fines. Moreover, the suspect could be required to pay restitution to the grocery store.
