Police Seek Public’s Help in Identifying Person Who Shot and Killed Man in South Hackensack, NJ
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office is seeking assistance from the public in identifying a suspect who murdered a South Hackensack businessman in April 2015.
The homicide is believed to have occurred in South Hackensack, New Jersey. The body of the 51-year-old victim was found lying inside Clean Sweep Chimney Depot, which is located at 480 Route 46 West in South Hackensack, NJ. The body was reportedly surrounded by a pool of blood when police found it.
South Hackensack police officers discovered the victim’s body while conducting a welfare check in the area.
After police found the victim, they rushed him to Hackensack University Medical Center. Unfortunately, doctors were not able to save the victim; he was pronounced dead sometime after arriving at the hospital.
Medical examiners later performed an autopsy on the victim. According to Bergen County coroners, the victim died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.
South Hackensack NJ police have been actively investigating the killing since April. Investigators spoke with a number of witnesses who were near the scene of the shooting when it may have occurred. Additionally, police obtained video surveillance footage from the area and conducted forensic testing around the site where the body was found.
At this time, investigators have yet to identify a suspect in the case.
Now authorities are asking for the public’s help in trying to determine the identity of a suspect in the fatal shooting.
If police are eventually able to identify a suspect in the case, it is likely that serious criminal charges for murder would follow. Murder is the most serious offense in the New Jersey Criminal Code. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, first degree murder charges are punishable by life imprisonment, with a mandatory minimum term of incarceration of 30 years in state prison.
