East Rutherford NJ police arrested three people after a high-speed pursuit that went through three New Jersey towns and involved officers from several police departments.

The car chase reportedly began around 10:41 a.m. in East Rutherford, New Jersey. An East Rutherford officer was on patrol when he saw a 1995 Honda Civic that he recognized as having been reported stolen earlier in the day.

The East Rutherford police officer called in with information about the stolen vehicle. He then turned on his lights and siren and instructed the driver of the stolen car to pull over. The driver reportedly refused to pull over and instead sped up.

Carlstadt police officers soon joined the vehicle pursuit, which moved through East Rutherford, Rutherford, and Lyndhurst. Once the driver got to Lyndhurst and began to head south on Orient Way, he lost control of the vehicle and had to stop in a grassy patch near an Extra Space Storage building.

The three occupants then got out of the car and allegedly tried to flee the scene on foot. Police quickly apprehended the two female suspects, while the male suspect was captured roughly 10 minutes later while reportedly hiding in a backyard of a home on the 700 block of Teneyck Avenue in Lyndhurst, New Jersey.

The 21-year-old male suspect, who is from North Bergen, NJ, is believed to have been the driver of the stolen vehicle. He has been charged with receiving stolen property, eluding police, and flight from arrest. Authorities indicated that the suspect is also wanted on a drug charge out of New York.

The female suspects, a 19-year-old and a 23-year-old, are both from Brooklyn, NY. They have each been charged with unlawful taking of means of conveyance and flight from arrest.

After being arrested and processed, the three suspects were remanded to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, NJ. The male suspect was being held at the correctional facility on a bail amount of $27,500, while the two female suspects were each being held on $5K bail amounts.
