Rochelle Park NJ police arrested a man who allegedly posed as his own twin brother so that he could avoid having to pay traffic tickets.

According to authorities, the 58-year-old suspect continually tried to postpone court dates in Rochelle Park since last summer.

The suspect was required to appear in court to answer a number of traffic tickets he had received in Rochelle Park, New Jersey. A patrol officer pulled over the suspect on July 31, 2014 and issued him five motor vehicle summonses.

The suspect kept telling municipal court officials, including a municipal court judge and numerous court clerks, that his actual name was “Tony.” As a result, the suspect claimed, the court was insisting that the wrong man appear. The suspect said that it was actually his twin brother who had been ticketed in Rochelle Park.

Remarkably, the suspect does not have a twin brother.

According to court officials, the suspect also claimed that he was legally blind.

Authorities uncovered the suspect’s alleged deception when the officer who issued the traffic citations saw the suspect in Maywood Municipal Court.

Officials later looked at the suspect’s driver’s license and used a fingerprint scan to determine the suspect’s real identity. The fingerprint scan proved that the twin brother, named “Tony,” did not exist.

As a result of the ruse, the suspect now faces serious criminal charges. Among the charges are hindering apprehension and false swearing. Additionally, the suspect faces charges for resisting arrest because he allegedly resisted when police officers first placed him under arrest.

After being arrested and processed, the suspect was taken to Bergen County Jail in Hackensack NJ. He is being held at the facility in lieu of $20,000 bail.

The Rochelle Park police chief stated that this case is an “example of the extremes people will go to escape justice.”
