Police recently charged a man with the robbery of a Paterson NJ supermarket.

According to authorities, the 31-year-old suspect walked into the Food Basics store on Getty Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey. Once inside the store, the suspect allegedly approached a cashier and demanded money from the register. Police said that the suspect claimed he had a gun when he ordered the cashier to hand over money.

The suspect was already in custody for a series of hold-ups in Bergen County when police linked him to the Paterson NJ supermarket robbery.

Elmwood Park police and South Hackensack police worked together to arrest the suspect in connection with the robbery of an Elmwood Park NJ Chase Bank branch on New Year’s Eve. According to authorities, the suspect walked into the bank and gave a bank teller a note; the note allegedly said that the suspect would shoot the teller unless he handed over cash. The suspect reportedly got away with $500 in cash.

The suspect was also charged with three more robberies in South Hackensack, New Jersey.

After being arrested and charged for the string of robberies in Elmwood Park and South Hackensack, the suspect was transported to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, NJ. The suspect was still being held at the facility when Paterson detectives used video evidence to connect him to the Paterson supermarket robbery.

As a result of the new evidence, the suspect now faces an additional count of first degree robbery. If the suspect is convicted of first degree armed robbery, he could potentially be sentenced to 10–20 years in New Jersey State Prison.

The suspect is still being held at the Bergen County Jail on a combined bail amount of $850,000.
